2004, December INVOLVE's response to the Department of Health's consultation on Ethics Review in Social Care Research No. of pages: 6.  Filesize: 137kb.   INVOLVE have responded to the consultation paper by examining the merits or otherwise of the four models in respect of service user involvement and known service user concerns about ethics in social care. It has also made suggestions for improving or combining different elements of the models.
2004, December Presentation to Ad Hoc Advisory Group on NHS Research Ethics Committees  (INVOLVE) No. of pages: 6.  Filesize: 31kb.   Lord Warner has set up an Ad Hoc Advisory Group on NHS Research Ethics Committees. It will provide independent advice to Department of Health ministers and undertake a review of the systems that support NHS Research Ethics Committees in England, and make recommendations for further steps to improve their operation, building on changes already under way. INVOLVE was invited to present to the Committee in December. Some of the issues we raised with the committee were around: limited awareness and understanding of public involvement in research amongst some ethics committees; limited patient and carer involvement in the NHS ethical review process; and some of the procedural barriers presented by ethics committees to public involvement in research.
