The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) for the South West Peninsula – or PenCLAHRC – undertakes high-quality applied health research focused on the needs of patients and supports the translation of research evidence into practice in the NHS.

Public involvement in research

PenPIG (Peninsula Public Involvement Group) is a user led advisory group. It is made up of members of the public, service users and carers. Its aim is to advise PenCLAHRC on all aspects of user involvement. This group has representation on PenCLAHRC’s Management Board and on the stakeholder group which prioritises research projects.
Members of PenPIG have also been involved in a wide range of activities related to the running and work of PenCLAHRC. These include participation in the recruitment of new staff, the development of PenCLAHRC’s on-line research question generation tool, participation in the teaching of medical students, the writing of applications for research funding, the development of our internal evaluation of PPI activity, advising and supporting user involvement in on-going research projects and presenting at conferences.
