The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded Research Design Service North East (RDS NE) is one of 10 regional services across England providing design and methodological support to health researchers who are developing research funding applications.  RDS NE supports research teams to develop and submit high quality applied health and social care grant applications to NIHR and other national peer-reviewed funding programmes.

Public involvement in research

The Research Design Service North East offers:

  • A dedicated Public Involvement Lead
  • Advice and support to researchers on Public Involvement
  • Advice and support to patients and members of the public interested in getting involved in research
  • Introductions and support to develop relationships between researchers and patients, carers, members of the public and local voluntary sector groups and organisations
  • The RDS NE Public Involvement Consumer Panel. Patients and members of the public from a variety of backgrounds offer researchers advice and support on Public Involvement.  The panel also offers lay reviews of research proposals and funding applications and longer-term collaboration in the design and development of specific research projects.
  • RDS NE Public Involvement funds.  Clients of the RDS NE may apply for up to £500 to facilitate early-stage Public Involvement in the development and design of their research
