Patient and Public Involvement in the NHS - Enabling the Implementation of Section 11 of the Health and Social Care Act 2001

To investigate to what extent the PPI policy has been implemented within West Norfolk Primary Care Trust (PCT). To investigate if the PPI policy has lead to changes and/or improvement in local health care services. To identify barriers to change. To consider what measures might be taken to instigate or increase the impact of the PPI policy on local healthcare provision. Given the breadth of the policy, the study will focus on organisational change within the PCT and the management of change.

Developing young people's involvement in mental health in primary care: towards consumer produced quality standards.

A consumer will run the project by interviewing and running groups of young people from various ethnic groups and recruiting from them a youth expert panel to develop standards and a needs assessment tool.

Neuroleptics in adults with aggressive challenging behaviour and intellectual disability (NACHBID)

NACHBID is a multi-centre three-arm parallel design, double blind, randomised controlled trial of placebo, halsperidol and resperidone. The sample group includes people with intellectual disability in community settings e.g.. Family homes, supported housing and NHS residential facilities, with living situation stratified at randomisation. Target population - all referrals to community services with mild, moderate or severe learning disability showing aggressive challenging behaviour in absence of a diagnosis of psychotic disorder.
