The end product will be as in 'Aims of the Project'.

Stages at which the public were involved:
Prioritising topic areas
Managing the research

Description of public involvement in research stages: Involvement as members of project steering group. Workshops to be held to discover key issues of involvement in research from lay perspective. Asked to read first draft of report to determine if user-friendly, accessible, easy to understand e.g. provide constructive criticism.

Training and support provided for either members of the public or researchers involved in the project:

Examples of ways the public have made a difference to the research project: We have already been guided as to the key questions that need to be asked when considering involving lay people in research and also when looking at the quality of a piece of research involving lay people. This has avoided domination of professional outlooks.

Evaluating the impact of public involvement in the research:

Details of publications or reports resulting from the research: The report will be published in September/October 2001 and copies will be available for professionals and consumers. The report will be posted on the Consumers in NHS Research website and the Folk.us website. Http://latis.ex.ac.uk/folk.us
