Description

The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) is a research department at the University of York that specialises in evidence synthesis, assembling and analysing data from multiple research studies to generate policy relevant research. We undertake high quality systematic reviews and associated economic evaluations, develop underpinning methods, and promote and facilitate the use of research evidence in decision-making.

Public involvement in research

CRD continues to develop its approach to involving patient and public representatives in the systematic review process. We have developed a flexible project-by-project approach to public involvement supported by centre-wide resources. The resources include guidance for CRD staff which includes practical advice on aspects such as identifying opportunities for public involvement, finding people to get involved, ways of involving people, funding public involvement and supporting people who get involved. We have also developed an induction pack, for people who get involved, that can be tailored to specific projects.

At the end of research projects, research teams are encouraged to reflect, in partnership with public members, about what went well and what did not go so well with regard to public involvement in the project. This information will be used to improve and develop our approach to public involvement.
