Cancer Research Network -NIHR
Description
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Cancer Research Network provides support for cancer research to take place in the NHS, so that patients benefit from new and better treatments and we learn how to improve the delivery of future healthcare in the NHS.
We provide the health service infrastructure (people and resources) to enable the conduct of clinical trials and other well designed studies in cancer research to take place in the NHS. Further information at: http://www.ncrn.org.uk
Public involvement in research
The NIHR Cancer Research Network is committed to involving patients, carers and the wider public in their work and to ensure their involvement has a real impact on cancer research delivery in the NHS.
Patients and carers are involved at all levels of the organisation and within all areas of research activity.
We provide a varied menu of involvement to ensure patients, carers and the wider public inform and influence the work we do. Activities can include (but are not limited to):
Media ambassadors, mystery shoppers in the NHS, working alongside researchers on Clinical Studies Groups (where research is developed to ensure it can be delivered effectively in the NHS to benefit patients), producing guidance documents on effective involvement, reviewing research information to ensure it is accessible to patients, designing and delivering learning workshops for researchers and lay people, reviewing research proposals.
Activities can be undertaken in meetings, via email, via websites and phone with the level and type of involvement driven by patients and carers with advice and support from the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team as required.
