2014 Conference

Abstract: This poster will record our experiences of setting up a public, patient and carer involvement in research group (inspire) within a mental health trust; it will showcase the development of inspire from conception to launch and beyond.

The poster will incorporate information from a NHS Trust perspective but more importantly will include input from members of inspire such as their views on being involved with inspire and with mental health research.

We hope to use inspire to show the process of setting up a new service user engagement initiative within the NHS. This will focus on involving mental health service users and carers in a meaningful way.

Through inspire we will show how to set up a successful public, patient and carer involvement strategy whereby  members feel they are heard and have real, tangible input into research.

We will focus on the particular issues that we have had to take into account due to the mental health setting and hope to receive input and raise discussion about public, patient and carer involvement in mental health research.
