Peter Beresford, Professor of Social Policy and Director of Centre for Citizen Participation, Brunel University. Peter Beresford is a long term user of mental health services, academic and Chair of Shaping Our Lives, the national user controlled organisation and network. He has a longstanding interest in issues of participation and empowerment as well as in developing and undertaking user controlled and survivor research.

Social Perspectives NetworklnbrVicky Nicholls has been joint coordinator of Social Perspectives Network, a network of people concerned with promoting social and holistic understandings of mental health, since April 2006. Vicky's background is in the voluntary sector, and she worked at the Mental Health Foundation for eight years where she coordinated usercontrolled research within the Strategies for Living programme. She is currently undertaking postgraduate training in infant mental health at the Tavistock Institute. Vicky is also a survivor of distress and the mother of a lively four year old boy which makes every day a new adventure.
