Abstract: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Approximately 500,000 people in the UK suffer from glaucoma, of which 67% remains undetected. It is well known that uptake of care and research improves when patients are made partners in their condition. Glaucoma patient days foster a unique learning experience and partnership between patients and healthcare professionals.
This presentation will cover:
- Organisation and delivery of a glaucoma patient day in partnership with glaucoma patients.
- Outcomes from the glaucoma patient day.
- The impact of the glaucoma patient day for patients and healthcare professionals.
- Glaucoma research priorities for patients vs healthcare professionals.
- Factors affecting quality of life for glaucoma patients.
- The usefulness of patients engaging with one another.
Patient engagement days are an important source of consultation and learning with patients in helping to set research priorities and deliver care.
