2008 Conference

This poster describes a project to involve people who have chronic conditions in
evaluating new government policy which affects the services they receive. Chronic
conditions include diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and respiratory diseases.

People with chronic conditions will be invited to join a research network to work with
an academic team from Swansea and Cardiff Universities who are following a plan
for evaluating how the new policy is delivered.

A network of people with chronic conditions will decide how they want to be involved.
Examples could include: joining the academic team; meeting as a network, then
feeding views in through representatives.

One in three adults in Wales says they have at least one chronic condition. The new
policy will affect many of the services they receive. Involving patients in research
about how the policy is delivered enables user perspectives to be included in
research decisions alongside academic views.

The project has recently started. This involvement process will be underway by the
conference date and can be reported in the poster.

People can learn about how patients have been involved in research and evaluation
about government policy which can directly affect the services they receive.
