2012 Conference

Abstract: How NETSCC changed its recruitment and selection practice for its boards, panels and other committees.

We will describe how NETS programmes have changed their recruitment and selection practice and how by learning from previous cycles, we have improved the systems we have used.

We will examine:

  • How the use of standard role descriptions and role specifications has made recruitment and selection more effective and efficient.
  • Problems associated with advertising and reaching bigger and diverse audiences, particularly for a national organisation.
  • How using a structured approach makes the selection decision fairer and more equitable.
  • How involving key stakeholders in the recruitment and selection process improves the outcomes.
  • How induction and support for newly appointed public contributors makes their integration more successful.

We will provide an opportunity to discuss:

  • How organisations can find the most suitable recruitment and selection process for their own needs.
  • Issues around equity, fairness and transparency.
  • How others have expanded the breadth and diversity of their public contributors.
