2006 Conference

The James Lind Alliance (JLA) has been established to foster discussion and debate among patients (and carers) and clinicians (doctors, nurses, therapists and others who treat patients) about the uncertainties of effects of treatments. The JLA supports the development of working partnerships of patient and clinician groups to address their areas of uncertainties together. This is achieved with a two-step process:

  1. Identifying the areas of uncertainty
  2. Prioritising the areas of uncertainty

Their session will seek to:

  1. Stimulate debate around the perceived priorities for research – drawing on the views and experiences of the audience
  2. Alert attendees to the JLA initiative and provide an outline of progress so far
  3. Share challenges and problems
  4. Demonstrate how uncertainties are collected on the web-based database (DUETs)
  5. Seek comments which can help guide the continuing development of the JLA
  6. Encourage participants to consider affiliating to the JLA
