2006 Conference

The aim of the workshop is to give participants a practical experience to comment on and formulate a proposal which then complies with the requirements of an Ethics Committee.

The workshop will follow the following agenda.

  • Introduction (5 Mins) Introduce Leaders of the Workshop to the audience with a brief history of purpose, and achievements of Warwick Diabetes Care and its Research User Group.
  • Split Audience into Groups of 12-15 and explain task in which each group will act as a User Group in being presented with a paper prepared by an inexperienced researcher to give detailed consideration prior to submission to the Local Ethics Committee (5 Mins)
  • Group Discussion (20 Mins) in which each group will be able to formulate improvements, correct any obvious errors, reformat if necessary in order to obtain ethics approval.
  • Plenary Session (15 Mins) in which each group presents its conclusions and presents its case for refinement of the proposal.
  • Conclusion (10 Mins) Producing an agreed version to return to the researcher.
