Abstract:

This article reports on the work of the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) panel at the National Institute for Health Research Birmingham Liver Biomedical Research Unit. The authors conclude that the involvement has helped to:

  • improve patient information and informed consent for study participants
  • improve the design of clinical studies
  • promote public engagement and education activities – helping to raise awareness of liver disease and the importance of research and clinical trials.
