Abstract: In order to improve the design of a future clinical trial of hand splints for thumb-base osteoarthritis, two groups of service users were brought together to provide advice on the selection and design of a placebo splint. The groups discussed whether a placebo arm was acceptable and developed a potential design for a placebo splint.
