Title: Involving children and young people in clinical audit.

Aims: The project is exploring whether children and young people want to be/can be involved in clinical audit in the acute hospital setting, and if they can how? The project is participatory in its approach.

Research project description: The project began with individual interviews with 9 young people. This is being followed up with group sessions where the young people have helped to shape the agenda and carry out further research activities to test out their views and findings.

Description of public involvement in research stages: Young people made decision about the shape of the agenda after interviews. They will participate in data analysis of questionnaire they devised. Then of group sessions with other children. They will participate in writing brief reports of the findings and also making decisions re dissemination.

Training and support provided for either members of the public or researchers involved in the project:

Examples of ways the public have made a difference to the research project: They have provided a broader range of ideas. They have focused the research clearly on the views of children and young people. Their participation has added validity to the study.
