Title: Supporting the positive development and well-being of children and young people with limb loss: the influence of the appearance of the prosthesis and individual choice.

Aims: The purpose of this project is to determine which aspects of choosing and wearing a prosthesis can promote confidence and social and psychological well-being in children and young people.

Research project description: The research involves three studies: 1) a general questionnaire study, 2) informal interviews with children aged 5-10 years and 3) informal interviews with children and young people aged 11-18 years.

Description of public involvement in research stages: Gaining funding, developing the questionnaire and interview schedule, recruiting participants, raising awareness about the study, organising a conference.

Examples of ways the public have made a difference to the research project: This project would not exist without help from the public, especially the Meningitis Trust and Steps. Among other things, their involvement has resulted in more ideas and ensured the study is sensitive to participants' needs.

Details of publications or reports resulting from the research: The study is not yet complete - We plan to publish in at least one academic journal and disseminate our findings through the charities involved.
